accuracy of the Spartan Brand Single Shot rifle
« on: July 12, 2005, 09:27:23 AM »
Hi:

Has anyone shot the Spartan single shot rifle?  What is the accuracy like on the rifle? I know the stock is not much to look at, but how good is the accuracy on the rifle.? Looking at the one in .223

Thanks,

Buy it, then you'll be the first one that I've seen posted about! Let us know whatcha think. If the rifles are as poorly built as the single shot shotguns I've looked at, I think you'll be disappointed, but we can always hope they'll be better.

I just came back from our local Gander Mountain store.I went there as they had a few of the new Spartan rifles that Remington is importing from Russia. I should have saved my gas and time spent looking at these pieces of junk.I know they are cheap but the stocks look like pieces of bulk wood, the blueing ( or lack of in spots) was horrendous! I cannot believe Remington would want to be associated with these sorry pieces of iron from Russia! After looking at 2 of these I found some Mossberg SSIs left-over and would buy one of these way before I would a Spartan.I was told these Spartans were some of the 1st lots to be shipped here but after looking at them would save my money for either a Mossberg or another Ruger #1.

Hi All,

Well I have a Baikal 18MH which I believe is what Remington is importinf as the spartan. Mine is .222 Rem and I doid do some work on the action to lighten and smooth the trigger I also restyled the wood work and stained it as it's some very white wood indeed. This is how it came looking :-

After reshaping the wood it now looks like this :-

I was not too happy with the commercial wood stain so I re-did it using Potassium permanganate crystals and got this :-

The fore end now looks like this

From my limited accuracy trials it seems reasonable but I really want to get out and give it a proper work out on the range. However that has not happened and just now I do not know when I will get the chance due to relocation.
