Weird day at range.
« on: July 29, 2005, 03:05:55 PM »
My usually accurate 22 Hornet was shooting two inch + groups. My ss 243 I thot I had solved was shooting 3-4" groups, and my Encore 14" 7mm-08 was shooting 1/2 to 1" groups. Was hot and windy...but was probably just me. And the scope on the hornet is a cheapo Tasco. Maybe I should just use pistols??? :shock:

I hear ya. Yesterday I went out and my performance was laughable. The weather has been extremely hot-in the mid and upper 90's :x - so my barrel was on fire the whole time. I hope it cools off soon so I can get some actual shooting in. If I wanted a pattern I would grab my 12ga.

Yup, shot the .243 today, even one shot and the barrel was warm, 3 shots and is was real warm and the groups showed it....even just in the mid 80s here, it was telling me that it likes cooler weather as much as I do!!! :-D I did squeeze some less than ½moa 3-shot groups with the Fusion ammo, though. :wink:

I just got some Fusion 245 95 grain.......will try it in my 243 Bull Barrel, then try it in the SS 243.......my best Handi's have heavy or bull barrels.Hope I can get my SS 243 to shoot, it's a joy to carry and hunt with.If not,will use the Bull Barrel 243 for my does this fall.Think I'll order a 7mm-08 for a back up ( if my shoulder heals, I can use my very accurate 45-70.... :?

poncaguy and lost sniper;

Hope both of your 7mm-08's are good shooters.  :grin:
I think, that caliber is one of the finest rounds ever for deer hunting.
Get this, I going to sell my Remington Model 7FS in 7mm-08 w/ 18-1/2 inch barrel, I've had since 1989 and get me a 7mm-08 barrel in my Ultra.
Just because it's got a 22 inch barrel.
I must be Nuts!
Going to take advantage of the discount barrel program.
