K-31 Ammunition Question
« on: August 07, 2005, 02:37:42 AM »
I have a K-31 and have been shooting the military GP 11 ammo in it. It shoots great. Can anyone tell me what the waxy ring around the case mouth/ bullet is for? I have been wiping it off. Is there any problem with leaving it in place? You knowledgeable K-31 guys, I need your help. :?

It is a "sealant/lubricant". I've never wiped it off before firing. It does tend to leave a buildup in front of the chamber that I remove when cleaning my rifle after a days shooting.

Thanks for the information. I was concerned about just such a build up in the chamber neck area. I'll start leaving it in place. That GP-11 ammo shoots well in my rifle.

I want to handload for it, but have found boxer primed 7.5X55 cases a bit hard to actually buy. The places that do have them seem to always be "sold out, waiting on another shipment" when I call. I did buy one box of the Hornady soft point loads but haven't shot any of them yet. They are a bit pricy for plinking.

Been there.

You can supposedly reform .284 cases into 7.5X55 but I've never done it personally.

If you can find FNM 7.5X55 it is boxer primed so you can reload it more easily than the berdan primed GP-11. It is not a substitute for GP-11 in the accuracy department though by any means.

Jack no supposidly about it the reformed 284 brass works great. It works fine for me and With all the positive post on the net about the subject it has to be working well for other folks too. Try it if ya got a K31 it works well.
Said I never had much use for one, never said I didn't know how to use it.
