hello everyone. Noob here to posting on GBO, though i've lurked here for a while. This is a great forum.

I've been searching for a good reference on the marlin that i bought a few months back and forum is great. What I have not found though is anything about Mods for the 60 though. I have taken my 60 down and cleaned it with no problems (removed stock, trigger, bolt, etc.) and it seems so easy to upgrade parts, but i haven't found anyone that sells aftermarket parts.

Does anyone have any leads that they can point me to? Are there any mods out there at all? I know that I wont find anything close to the mods for a 10/22, just looking to improve a few things.

Also, after taking my 60 apart and cleaning all of the parts, when i put it back together, i still seem to have a "gritty" feel when moving the bolt. Has anyone else come across this? Can I sand or polish anything to make that stop?

About the only available options are a couple of synthetic stocks, and different scopes.
You can find a Dragunov-style stock, and even a Bullpup stock, if you search.

Someone posted a no cost trigger mod that I'm trying to find again.
I'll post it to you if I find it. Had to do w/ either bending the spring
and/or cuting it a tad for an easier pull.
Sounded like the real deal...... :-)

Trigger: Rebend the spring in the trigger guard so it has enough pressure on the trigger to return it butnot much more. Cut a coil or two off the hammer spring. I polished the sear surface on one of my Marlins, but with the spring mods it diesn't realy need it. All these mods together made the trigger too light on one of my model 60 rifles. I had to go back and add some more trigger return pressure back in it. I drilled and tapped the rear of the trigger guard for a 4-40 set screw to limit over trevel. I like that mod a lot.
Receiver: I milled the ejection port up to the end of the barrel to allow gasses and residue an easier exit rather than going down into the action. I also drilled two 1/8" holes on the off side of the receiver for the same reason. Just to make it purty, I jeweled the bolt side that shows in the ejecton port. I drill and tap a hole in the top of the reciever behind the rear scope mount to take a 10-24 hex head machine screw to keep the scope from walking off the back of the receiver.
Barrel: My 60W had a 22" barrel and short magazine tube. I cut it to 19 3/8" and did a nice smooth 11 degree precision crown job on it in my lathe. Sorta gives it a bull barel look and is very accurate.
Stock: I installed quick release sling mounts and use a black nylon quick adjust sling from Wal Mart. Make sure the mounts are far enough apart so the sling is tight at it's shortest adjustment.

Very nice indeed... Did/would any of these mods affect cycling
of the rifle ? Will simply taking off the trigger guard and pulling the
trigger further back do any good ? If not, how does one " rebend "
a spring ? Seems it would just go back to its original shape unless
you really pull on it and then they get longer than original. What do
you do w/ the excess length ?
Where did you get the coin shaped object in the stock ? Was it
original equiptment at one time ? Adds a nice touch..

The trigger has a mouse trap type spring. You take it out and note the angle of the two legs. Then you bend it to a slightly different angle to lessen it's strength. It's been several years since I bent those springs and I don't remember which way you bend it. When you take your's out it will be obvious.
The medallion was in the stock of Model 60W rifles sold by Wal Mart. I'll take a pic of it and my trigger stop screw and post it here this evening.

I took the guard off and I see the spring. Havent bent it yet. The pull
when off the gun isnt bad at all. From what I can see, the other spring
inside the housing does most of the work slamming the firing pin against
the shell. I did manage to knock the small screw retainer in the stock loose and I guess I'll have to take the main screw in the middle of the gun out, lift off the whole assembly, and put it back in place. Now I'll get to look at whatever else I can do while I'm in there.
My trigger guard seems to be some kind of cast material, doesnt
appear or feel to be aluminum, possibly cast white metal or even
plastic of some type. I doubt that the older models were made of this. No binding when one pulls the trigger, smooth enough. I have a dremel if there is something to polish/smooth out to ease the pull.
I appreciate the time and effort in posting this mod. It seems to be
one of the few vices of this weapon.

If you think the trigger spring is soft enough I would leave it alone. It's a pain to replace. I put a dab of Tetra gun grease on the hammer notch to make it slippery, helps trigger pull a little.
