A Lady Smith for the Lady: S&W M60LS

Just bought a NIB Lady Smith 357 / 38 for my sweetheart and (since this is my first Smith & Wesson) thought I'd inquire with you folks as to what you thought of this particular model?

Sssssshhhhhhhhhh!  Don't say anything as I haven't given it to her, yet!

Seriously, the M60 Lady Smith has a glass beaded stainless finish, Combat Dymondwood rose grips, and a smooth target trigger / semi-target hammer.  Barrel length is 2 1/8" and weight is 21.5-oz's.

CDNN has a sale on this 5-shot revolver that retails for $621 (according to S&W) and I felt fortunate to buy 1 of the 7 they have for only $399.

P.S.  Also purchased a NIB compact 45 auto (EAA Witness) for only $259.

It is a very good gun.

I would use 38 special target loads or Wadcutters, for a lot of practice.
Then start her on 38 special normal loads after this try the 38+P.
Finally consider the magnum loads.

My point is this gun is very versatile allowing a novice shooter to work up to their max comfort level/round without becoming afraid of guns recoil.

This may not even be a concern...is your sweetheart a novice?

Have you seen the laser grips offered for this gun?

Good Choice,

Thanks for the advice and nice revolver.

Question:

We have a few boxes of 148-gr. wadcutter target loads and were wondering how they'd do for self defense?

158-gr. LSWCHP's or 135-gr. SB Gold Dots are being considered for protection as well.

147 grain - the Ladysmith is a great choice.  I hope she appreciates it.  The wadcutter as a self defense round does not have a heavy punch, but only a fool would stand in front of one.  That being said, wadcutters punch a non-healing square hold in the target and I can tell you from experience that two through the chestplate will drop even a big drunk.

However, that being said your wife will need to practice with that snubby.  Both longer and shorter barrels maximize shooting errors.  4" is optimum they used to say and 4" revolvers are good for me but I do like my snubbies.

If your wife practices and gets comfortable with wadcutters, she can put those to good use.  HTH. Mikey.
