I have two books in my posession that offer proof through sworn affadavits that Abraham Lincoln was fathered by Abraham Enloe, a well to do farmer from Southwestern North Carolina.
My grandfather was a well known historian and genealogist from whom I inherited these books.
According to those who knew the families, Nancy Hanks and her sister were farmed out to foster homes in their pre-teens as there parents were unable to support them. Nancy went to the Enloe home, her sister to another.
As Nancy grew into her teens, she apparently attracted the affections of Mr. Enloe and a pregnancy resulted. Nancy and infant son were sent away to live with Enloe's married daughter and son in law in Kentucky.
A. Enloe arranged for Nancy to marry one Thomas Linkhorn, a local rail-splitter and liquor dealer, in order for little Abe to have a father. Linkhorn mistreated Nancy and Abe, treating them as slaves. Nancy soon died and Abe ran away from home, eventually changing his name to Lincoln.
