New S&W 500 Magnum Revolver
« on: February 14, 2003, 07:06:31 PM »
S&W just released a new model claimed to be "The Most Powerful Handgun" ($989). This really defines the word HAND CANNON!

Here's some hyperlinks for the gun.

Great News!
I've been hoping S&W would come out with a gun to rival the 454 and 480.
I'm a S&W man, I'am happy I didn't go buy a 454 or 480. I can't wait to get my hands on one of these new 500's.
I didn't see anything on their website about who is making the ammo for the new gun. Have you heard anything about that?
I hope it won't take long to get dies, brass, moulds, and loading info for the new cartridge.

This one would be a nice 10" Encore barrel  :-)  maybe i am old fashioned, but the looks of that new Smith model are kinda....wierd?  it looks good, but just different.  anyways...i love it!

SSK is already chambering Encore barrels for the new S&W 500 magnum cartridge. He has some pretty impressive hunting pics up on his website, the 500 magnum has already accounted for some really impressive kills.

too long for Illinois

Because of the case length, Illinois won't be able to use this cartridge in their handgun deer season. We have a limit of 1.4".
