Any experience with the new Mossberg Int. Silver Reserve O/U

Hi folks,
I bought this shotgun at a gun show in Austin last week, but haven't
got to take it out yet.

It is 12ga, single trigger, O/U barrel select on safety, Black Walnut stock,
and extractors. Fit and finish are excellent. It comes with 5 chokes

I notice you've had your gun for a few weeks.  Have you taken it out yet?  I am interested in purchasing one of these but also wonder about their quality for such a reasonable price.

I recently had a chance to look over the new Silver Reserve. For the money, it sems like a very nice shotgun. I found the hinge action very, very tight. It may take some time to break the gun in. I like the fact you get several choke tubes with it, making it quite versatile. I like a mid bead on my ribs, but that could be added quite easily.

Do you know if they are available in a 30" barrel?

Apparently they are made for Mossberg, not by Mossberg.

Sorry fellas, but I haven't been to a range yet. The nearest range is quite a distance and I haven't been able to get there. I've had to have some majors repairs on my house and I'm serving duty as "gofer", you know "go fer this and go fer that". I also got a new Blackhawk, it hasn't got to be used either. My Silver Reserve was also VERY tight. But I kept
breaking the action open and closing it as I watched TV. It is still tight but not nearly as bad.

I purhcased one about a week ago.  Shot clays with it a few days ago...

I gotta say that this is a really nice gun!  I am totally amazed as were all of my shooting pals.

We put about 150 rounds through it in a two hour span shooting clays.  We had no problems at all, and I probably shot the best I've ever shot in my whole life with it.  It's still pretty stiff... and it might take some time to loosen up, but I still think you can't go wrong with this gun for the price.

When I purchased the gun I was really comparing it with a Beretta O/U.  Obviously the finish on the Beretta was nicer, but honestly I don't think the finish is worth another $1200.  I have heard rumors about the firing pins breaking on the Mossbergs... so I'll keep posting updates of my experiences with this gun as time goes on....

When you say that you hear rumour of Mossberg firing pins breaking, do you  mean on the Silver Reserve models, or other Mossberg models?

The Silver Reserve is made by a turkish gun maker I have heard, Dehaan? Perhaps this problem is exclusive to thier pins?

Seems like a great deal on those O/U. I would buy one if I knew they could stand up to a good pounding. I shoot "a lot" of trap.

I believe that they are being made by Kahn.  Reports have varied. For the most part folks seem to be happy with their purchases.

The rumors I've heard about the firing pins breaking seemed to be directed towards the Silver Reserve and Onyx Reserve models... not Mossbergs in general.

I took this gun out again this weekend and again ran a ton of shells through it.  My wife even likes this gun alot.

How do you find the gun patterns? Is it pretty flat shooting, or can you float a target? Much difference in the POI with the different barrels?

I saw a new one at the trap club the other weekend. Fellow who bought it seems very pleased.

 Keep us posted with your critique of this gun...I might end up with one in my closet yet.... :-)

I just bought one and kinda sorta wish I hadn't.  On mine the trigger sticks, the pheasant on the left side of the receiver has a mottled brown head and neck rather than solid gold, the safety and barrel selector is so stiff that I have to put an awful lot of muscle on it to change barrels or put the safety off to shoot and the trigger is about a 10 pounder, I mean really hard.  But other than those things, it's ok. :noway:

Didn't you get a chance to look at the gun before buying it? Sounds like a few things mentioned would likely be covered by warranty. ie. sticky trigger, stiff barrel selector, gold leaf problem...

Do they have auto safety's on those guns, or can you leave it off? I shot a Ruger Red Label once, and it screwed me up bad with it's auto safety. (Trap shooting)

I had my dealer special order this gun after looking at them at Gander.  The ones that I looked at seemed to be good.  I paid for this and registered it before opening the box and looking.  (My screwup)  Even though I would not have refused this from the dealer that ordered it, he really didn't want to and advised me against it but I went ahead anyway.  But again I would not have had him send it back and just decided to deal with it myself unless it has to go back.  But MHO is that the Silver Reserve may shoot ok but it is a really cheaply made piece of iron.  I would recommend if you wanted the gun to buy the Kahn which is the same gun but quite a bit cheaper.  I called Mossberg about this and their only reply was to send it back to them and they would fix it, to which I replied that if I had to send it back I would rather have it replaced and not repaired.  I bought a new gun not a repaired one.  He did recommend that I polish the pheasant head with metal polish to remove the STAIN on it.  I would not rub it with any metal polish but I did rub it some with bore solvent and gun oil which helped but not removed it.  I'm really not very happy with my purchase.  Live and Learn.
