i have a similar rifle and although i've never heard of a replacement wood stock, a number of companies offer synthetic stocks. i think butler creek makes one that can be had for about $60.

i had another .303 that was stolen back in the mid-70's. the bayonet lug had been removed, the barrel recrowned & it had a nicely figured walnut monte-carlo stock that the owner had bought thru a catalogue. of course that was almost 35 years ago -jeez it makes me feel old seeing that in print- what's ya'alls opnions on the synthetics? i just picked up a sythetic
remington 7mm mag. but have not had time to shoot it yet. mt recolection of the .303 was that it was a flat shooting & hard hitting round. had more than 2 whitetale & a muley that just folded up & dropped when hit.

it wouldbe nice to find a wood stock. never did like the look of black plastic. my dad says the same thing about the enfields punch. of all the deer he shot he can't remember a single one that didn't keel over on the spot.

yeah but the days of the $20.00 mil. surplus are gone. the last ones i looked at were going anywhere from $75.00-$150.00 & they were not in the best of shape (even for surplus). they must be getting down to the bottom of the barrel. ( could not resist that one, sorry

zack:  I have one just like that which I purchased for under $20 in 19 and 66.  The sporter stock it now wears is reconfigured from the original sporter I put on back then.  It is Maple, with a Monte Carlo cheekpiece.  You can find wood sporter stocks for the SMLEs from the different stock manufacturers.  They may not advertise them because of the low demand but they are available.

When I reconfigured mine, I also bedded both parts of the stock and she groups 3 handloads into the same hole at 100 yds.  Now, this is a Stevens, US made #4, Mk1 made in 1942.  With the S&B 180 grain (.311 dia) fmjs, she groups just over an inch at the same distance.  My handloads group under 3/4's of an inch.  I luv it.  It has taken many, many head of game including elk and bear.  I would use that caliber for anything but the largest and most dangerous north American game.  Hope this helps.  Mikey.

You might want to check out this site.  They make wood stocks and are quite reasonable.
