Well put, & it is a different world out West than some people who hunt in
the East all the time can visualize. I am going back to Wyoming this Oct.
to take my oldest son on an Antelope hunt. I don't even think about going out there without a Rangefinder.
Even on our families "old home place" where I hunt here in AR., I have
a right-of-way stand & a couple of stands overlooking grown up fields that
offer long shots. I also bowhunt, handgun & muzzleload hunt & have taken
alot of game up very close. I guess this is why it amuses me so much
when I hear the old remark that if you were a hunter, you could get closer. So, by that reasoning when I am setting in my right of way stand
with my 300 & can cover all 6 main trails, I am not as good a hunter as I
would be if sitting in the same stand with a lesser gun I could take deer
in only 4 of the trails and let the others walk. It is like you said in your
example of the Big racked Buck, you rarely get to see them again. Like
Redhawk mentioned one time how he has seen so many big Bucks he
has had to let walk while bow hunting, & that of course happens to me too.
So, when I sit in one of these stands, I believe in taking advantage of the
opportunity.
