I know this is not a new idea, but what would you guys like to see in a new caliber?

35 Remington, here.  Just about any 35 Cal would be OK, though.

What's your's?

Either 6.5x55 or 9mm Luger would be peachy with me.

35 Whelen, .357 mag and .357 maximum have already been made. Do a search for 35 remington, you'll see it's a popular request. The .357 maxi ballistics are similar to the 35 rem.

6mm Remington (244Rem), 257 Roberts and a 7x57. All have long necks providing good bullet tension and lower pressure with higher velocities. Bullets can be seated further out to get to the lands.

They are in my opinion some of the best suited cartridges for the Handi and most suitable for AI conversions.

How about just getting NEF to set up a "custom" shop to chamber for any cartridge you desire that will stay within the Handi's limits?  With cut rifling!

I'd pay them an extra $150 or maybe $200 for this, at least it would be a factory barrel and no worry about warranties.

Handi is right!!! I would too....in fact...I've paid more than that for custom calibers in a Handi.....45-120, 338-06 and 405 Winchester....I'd love to get one for $150-$200 over the usual cost!!! Maybe we can talk Wayne into starting a Handi Custom Shoppe!!!!

It would be nice...but...I don't think it will happen...heck...how long have we been asking them to reissue certain calibers and they won't...I don't think I would hold my breath for them on this...if I want a custom Handi...I'll send it to a qualified gun-smith that can do what I ask him to do and have the intelligence to tell me what will or won't work...and why......and do it at a competitive price with out a 6-12 month wait...but...again...I agree with you...it would be nice if they did have a custom shop... :agree:

About every 2 or 3 months someone starts a thread just like this one.....been going on right at 3 years now. Took all that time just to get to see the 7.62x39 barrel. What is ridiculous is that they chambered the 500 SW and no one was even requesting that one. I doubt we will ever see a 35 Rem offer, though it would be nice and I'm sure that at least as many of those if not more would be sold as the 500....go figure.

I already have my favorite NEF barrel....38-55. If you reload (or want to start) get one of these. It is a 35 Remington on steroids.

Howard, H&R made some 221s 30-40 years ago, I saw one on eBay last year, the caliber stamping was factory. The 221 brass is larger than 22 hornet in all respects but one: Case length for hornet is 1.403 inch, fireball 1.400. I suspect that difference is well within manufacturing tolerances. I've been thinking of getting an extra hornet barrel, rechambering to 221, and giving it to a friend who has an old Remington XP100.

JPH
I'd love the 38-55 if I could use 375 dia bullets causeI have NEVER had any luck with cast bullets, many do but just not me.  I load the 38-55 brass for my 375 Win and it would be nice to interchange, then again I might not use my Win as often as I should either.  The idea of cut rifling for it sounds better though.

I've thought of getting a 30-30 barrel and going to 375 Win or even 375 JDJ.  SSK says they wont rechamber "one of those rifles" but my smith says he's considering a reamer about .010" shorter then the JDJ.  I doubt there' d be enough loss of power, even from a rifle, to even notice.

Like I said, I know this question has been asked many times before, but...

I really think that if we keep telling the guys in charge what we want, we might get it.  Maybe they'll tally up the calibers once in a while and bring one out.

Let's not kill the question, if H&R thinks it's shooters are happy with what they offer, do you think we'll ever see anything different?

It doesn't hurt to wish...

Watch eBay. The 24" 7x57 was discontinued recently, I think it was dropped when they started with the 2003 models. I'm not sure if NEF ever made an 8mm, but it seems likely that the original H&R firm did.
