Yup....you could say that!!!!! There's a great article on the USRAC Model 95 and 405 Winchester in the current issue of Rifle magazine, several pages long with load data and all kinds of good stuff!!! The pic below is from the magazine.

Good Lord Quick, You need to send half dozen  Handi's down let me try
them. You spend so much time on puter and getting more Handi's,
 never be able to shoot all ! :-D  :-D  :-D  :-D
Does the 338-06 have cut rifling? like on 405 also.
 Best to you Marv.

Ain't retirement grand!!! :-D  :-D  :-D  Yes, they both have 6 groove cut rifling, and it's super accurate in the 338-06, both mine and Mac's shoot really great, I expect the 405 will shoot just as well, and outa that 28" barrel, I'm hopin to get some use outa the 350gr Barnes XFB, too!!

Can you say Black Death, ala Cape Buffalo!!!! The sectional density of the 350gr XFB is .296 bout as close as you can get to the magic .300 needed for dangerous game, and with a BC of .536, it should kick some butt.................probably just mine cuz I have no desire to go to africa.....but ya never know!!!

Craig Boddington and his daughter both took cape buffs with Ruger #1 Tropicals in 405 Winchester.....these are single shots for anyone not familiar with em!!! If they can do it with a single shot, it can be done with a Handi, too.......just probably won't be me!!!

The next range trip will include 4 rifles, the 22-250 Fluted UV, 405 Winchester, SS 30-06 and the 7mm-08 barrel....maybe.... if the weather cools down......probably not before, though.....tis too hot for this ole boy!!

Quick
My younger brother and I are scheming for an Africa trip in the next 3-4 years.  We plan on taking the wives and making it about a 3 week trip.  One week hunting, his wife hunts, mine doesn't, one week on photo safari and one shopping.

He is in the middle of building a house and I hope to be retired by then.

Maybe a 405 could be in my future, then I'd just need someone with the cahones to stand close enough to a buff and shoot it!

Yup, that's perzactly my feelings on the task!!! I had the opportunity to go to africa the year after I retired, a supervisor friend at the post office I retired from goes over at least twice a year, he invited me to come along, all I had to pay for was my air fare, everything else would be paid with the exception of trophy fees....which can be very expensive....wouldn't mind doing the shooting, but I have no room for trophies...so I declined.....may someday regret it, but not so far.

I just tried, my camera won't focus close enough to show the rifling, the one time that I got it to, the bore was just a black hole...  :(

Tim,

That's a great looking setup!  :D  I have a soft spot for that small forearm like the older shotguns had on them.

I'm anxious to hear if you can still type after shooting it.

Thanks Paul!! Typing after shooting it shouldn't be a problem, I've shot 540gr loads at 1700+fps in my 45-120 BC and 300gr loads at 2450fps in the 45-70, so 350gr loads in the 28" target at 2100-2200fps should be a walk in the park!!

Yep, I know and you probably have a tube of depleted uranium stuffed in the stock too!

They say you can keep your eyeballs in their sockets if you use some of that clear packing tape over them, but don't use the USPS priority tape!

Here's the list....

1> Past Magnum shoulder pad.

2> Limsaver recoil pad.

3> Laminated stock.

4> 2¼lbs of lead in the stock.

5> Upright shooting position.

Works for me!!

I finally put a slip on Limbsaver on my two groove 03-A3 to cover the steel buttplate.  I guess it's working, but it's hard to tell when you're only shooting 173 gr cast at 1600 fps!

Looks like a grey/black laminate stockset.  Have not seen one of those before.  Who makes it?  Sure is a pretty rifle.
