Lets keep this area for Crossbow tips and h
« on: August 06, 2005, 07:23:34 PM »
Got a PM from a member asking if we can just keep this area for  Crossbow shooting tips and hunting tales  or about just about crossbows and not bashing them or talking the age old arguement what is better Bow or Xbow and  why or why not they should be allowed for Hunting. This member was right we never will resolve it, so lets talk about crossbows and hunting and shooting tips ect only here. I locked the lively discussion we had just  On Bows VS xbows and my thread on Predjudice so we can start over here and Lets please keep it on Crossbows on a positive note. If GB wants to change this fine as I did this on my own. Ya got any complaints with it go to GB. I was asked to do this and I felt it was a good idea.  Jim

OK got a other PM from a member thinking I was over reacting by locking the threads. Considering that they were heading to a arguement that could not be resolved and that I think every thing had been said I locked it. To be fair about it most bow sites do not want xbows mentioned and get mad about it unless they have a xbow section. So to be fair I went with the members suggestion that it would be nice to not have these  xbow VS bow conversations and just talk about xbows. I agreed so that is why I did what I did. If you do not agree please PM GB or Ihuntbucks the other moderator and state your case. You sure will not hurt my feelings any I am just trying to keep folks happy here and that is not easy to do as you keep one happy the next may not  agree but as I said you can always contact GB or the other moderator. Jim

Ok I ulocked the threads to try to be fair but lets not start a open season here on bashing xbows I think the first member had a valid point that he would like to see xbow expiriences here and tips ect not just a bunch of post on bashing xbows but to be fair I unlocked the sites. Lets just try to keep it civil.

I've sorta stayed out of this one since no one has specifically asked me to get involved and it's not my intention now to dictate what direction you take with it.

But let me be clear about a few things that are general in nature to the GBO web site.

It is NOT my intention to provide space or an audience to anti's. Be they anti gun, anti trapping, anti shooting, anti hunting or anti anything else. When I set up a trapping forum it was for trappers to talk their sport not for folks against trapping to jump in and add their two cents worth. Same for the Exotics Hunting Forum.

The same applies here. This forum is to discuss the use of crossbows as hunting tools. It's fine to talk about them as target or sport shooting tools too. But it's not the proper venue to argue against their use. Take that to the Politics and Second Amendment forum or the off topic discussion forum or the pot bellied stove forum or some other general discussion type forum. Don't come here to the forum set up for folks who wish to use crossbows and start knocking them.

That's general guidance for any specific topic forum on this site. Have no problem with folks who are in general pro gun, pro hunting, etc expressing such views but do it in the proper venue. Folks who are anti gun, anti shooting, anti hunting in general just plain aren't welcome here.

It's GB's site, and it's his rules.  My objection is based on the topic as it was started.  It seems to me that if the thread is all about how xbows should be considered archery you should consider the opinions of those who disagree.  I've never posted in any topic related to xbows and their use, only the threads started with this discussion in mind.

If they belong elsewhere that issue should be resolved by the initial poster.

Crossbows are pretty close to as old as stick bows. Most certainly FAR FAR older than compound bows. While this isn't the proper venue for a discussion on the relative merits of one tool vs. another for what we loosely call "bow hunting" or archery hunting I'm of the opinion that if we want to make it primitive bow hunting fine do it.

But that means no compounds either. It should then be limited to stick bows only. Even then a primitive crossbow might sneak in as a primitive bow. Guys they are BOWS. Why ya think they're called CROSS BOW? They are merely horizontal rather than vertical bows.

Yeah they are a tad easier to kill game with since you don't have to make that movement to pull it back at the very instant when movement is most critical. Tis true. That they are more accurate than a compound I'd argue. That they are a bit faster to learn to use with proficiency I might not argue. That they offer any vast real world advantage I would most certainly argue.

Why this issue is so volitile I do not comprehend. Same way with muzzle loaders between in line and side hammer users. The stick bow guys think you compound users are cheating. Jeez don't you realize that hunters are our own worst enemies? We don't need anti's to end out sport, well do it for them bickering back and forth over such minor technicalities.
