Hi there, I picked up a remington 673 and am looking for a good scope that will not cost me more than the gun. I am considering the bushnell 4200 in 1.5-6x with the firefly reticle or if its to thick the regular duplex. I generally hear good things about the bushnell 4200 series but I have heard a few complaints about the thickness of the firefly reticle. So the question is this, just how thick is it compared to regular multi-x type reticle? Half again as thick? twice as thick? If I buy one I will have to buy it over the internet so I won't be able to check out the reticle first.

I strongly recomend that you check one out in person if you can. THey are quite a bit thicker than the regular duplex. It was a little too thick for my choice. I would recomend the leupold 1.5-5 or 2-7. For the money I don't think that there is a better hunting scope than the leupold 2-7 VX I or VXII. I am also very impressed with the leupold euro scopes with 30mm tubes, at 360 dollars its a great value for the price.

To be honest I have never been very impressed with leupold scopes. :shock: Heresy I know.

Its not that they are terrible but they are vastly overrated in my opinion. I will try to find a firefly reticle to look at locally if possible but what I would really like is to find an online picture of the actual reticle.

The firefly reticle is thick. Very thick. I picked one up today that was already mounted on a rifle I bought. If it weren't for the good deal, I probably wouldn't have gotten the scope. I will say the clarity/quality of the optics were very good and to my eyes about the same as the Leuopold Vari-X III that I compared it to, side by side.

I too, would suggest you look through one before you commit to buy one. I have no doubt that this scope will perform fine for a hunting (not target) rifle, however it'll probably take some getting used too if you're not already familiar w/ heavy duplex reticles. And this one it the heaviest I've seen yet.
