Got a few questions
« on: August 11, 2005, 04:12:02 PM »
Howdy ya'll

I love the look of the Handi rifle and the Buffalo Classic. What barrels swap with what recievers? It seems from what people have been posting you can get anything from a 22 rimfire, 12  gauge shotgun or 45/70 barrel to work with the same reciever.
I'd like to eventually get two recievers and have several different barrels for both. How realistic is this? Thanks
Andrew

What you propose is easily achievable.  There are folks here who know just what from earlier productions is compatable with what from then and now, but..... essentially, any rifle receiver you  get of current manufacture will accept any barrel of current manufacture.  I belive the shotgun barrels can be fitted to the rifle receivers, but the converse is not recommended, though I do know guys shooting .22 Hornets and similar calibers from shotgun receivers.  I can't recommend this but they seem to get away with it.

Rimfires will not fit on a standard frame, firing pin is offset for the rimfires but they have their own frame. Any rifle SB2 frame can accept any other rifle or shotgun or huntsman muzzle loader. Shotgun SB1 can only take shotgun or huntsman muzzle loader but not 10ga its by itself.

Make sure the fit correctly check the sticky

Thanks for the welcome and the answers.  I shoot Cowboy Action Shooting and Andrew Quigley is my alias there. That makes Matthew a cousin of mine. 8)
Will the Huntsman reciever take the centerfire barrels? I saw a good deal on a used one the other day but wasn't sure if it would work with the rifled barrels so I passed. If it'll work I might be able to still get it and be started on my first of many to come, I hope.
 Thanks
Andrew

A.Q.

First you might want to check the H&R web site , go to the barrel program link it will give a list of current barrels that fit which frames. Here is the links.

Yep your right. It helped plenty. Now I just got togo buy that first one and go from there. Anybody mated one of the 38/55's to your Handi rifle? Friend of mine has one of the Buffalo Classics in the caliber and he loves it.
Thinking on getting my first rifle in .223 and maybe the first barrel in the 38/55.

 Thanks again for the help.

I'd get the gun that had the stocks I wanted first. If you want the walnut BuffClassic/TargetModel stocks and peep sights, the cheapest way to get them is to buy the gun that way. If you want laminated/checkered stocks, get the ultra rifle, if you want walnut stained beech or synthetic, get a handi rifle. (if you want a 24" .223, you'll have to get the ultra varmint or buy it as a spare barrel)
