Encore Aftermarket Barrels, Worth It?
« on: August 19, 2005, 01:02:34 PM »
I've been looking at several aftermarket makers of Encore barrels, one that caught my eye was Bullberry. They have quite a good selection of standard and wildcat barrels to choose from, and various barrel tapers. My question is are they worth the extra cost. They do guarrantee accuracy.

I am not sure what "worth it" means to you but what you get is a Shilen match grade barrel and a chamber cut ...typically to min. spec. And that gets you an extremely accurate, easy to clean barrel that does not allow for over working brass and thus extending case life. So for somewhere around $450 you have to decide. I have a few of Freds barrels (in fact he is building me one now) and to me they are "worth it". A factory barrel is functional and most are very accurate, can be had for around $240.

skb2706,
Thanks, I had wanted to see what those that owned them thought of them. To me, buying a new barrel/caliber for the Encore would be like buying a new rifle. If I can get a match grade barreled rifle for $450, it's more than worth it. I really like the large caliber selection they offer.

I have/had 5 Encore barrels, 4 custom, one factory. Three custom ones shot poorly, the other and the factory one were wonderful. You could shoot any bullet or load and they were accurate. Lost my ass on the custom ones I sold, hopefully the new owners were able to make them shoot.
