I got a new Rossi, but I have some questions!!
« on: June 22, 2005, 02:06:37 AM »
I just purchased a Rossi single shot in .357 mag.  I have a nikon prostaff scope on the way.  I was wondering if I have to buy the Rossi "scope mount base kit" or can I pick up a regular scope mount base at a local store?

Also, I have seen some talk about some people reaming out there NEF .357 mag to a .357 MAX.  What I was wondering is, will the same reamer work on the Rossi?

Thanks for any info.

The weave base for a thompson has a different raidus for the barrel, the screw holes line up but that is about all.  It will fit, but it does not contact the barrel properly.  Larry

I have read somewhere(perhaps GBO) that you can take abrasive paper rough side out on the barrel, put the weaver base on top of it and work it until you get the right contour on the base. I have also heard of a few complaints where the screws that come with the weaver base in some cases are too short and require the hole in the base to be counter sunk deeper. The Rossi base does give you more latitude in ring placement than the weaver.
