Well I have done me some research, and I may be changing my mind. See what you think:
Remington Managed Recoil 270 win.
115 grain bullet at 2700 fps
Effective kiling power out to 200 yards
And here is the good part, a 50% reduction in recoil! So, in a 8 lb rifle the recoil energy of a standard 130 grain 270 load at 3140 fps is about 16.5 ft lbs. The Managed Recoil load would be about 8.5 ft lbs of recoil energy. This is less recoil than a 243, 30-30, or a 257 roberts.
So my Thutty Thutty project may turn into a 270 project for my little boy. One more thing I like is, he can graduate to full power loads one day and never need a new rifle as he gets bigger. We can simply put on a full sized stock and he is set for many many years.
I would still put on a youth stock, slim both stocks down, install a mercury recoil reducer, and a Limbsaver recoil pad.
Please shoot holes in my research.
Thanks,
