Cor-Bon 44 Special 165 Gr. Hollow Points

Anyone deer hunt with this round.  Another forum has some talk about these being good deer hunting rounds.  Can this be true?

It seems a little lite to me. People use 158gn in 357's with some success at 50 yd or so. I load 44 sp with 200 to 240 swc for field carry.

I do not suggest any bullet weight lighter than 240 grains for .44 Specials or Mags.  

However, I have been playing with this JHP Speer makes specfically for the Special.  Loaded to 850 fps, it penetrates 14" of soaked phonebooks and weight retention is in the high 90's percent.  It anchors groundhogs well with minimal damage.  This may be the exception to my advice for deer huunting with the Special.  I'm going to try it on some larger game if possible.

:cb2: That Cor-Bon load is pretty hot. I have fired them in my Anaconda, and it felt like I was still shooting magnums. The Cor-Bons ain't your average .44 Special. Before I say yea or nay I'd like to know the energy stats on that round.

I use the Corbon 165s in my S&W 696 revolver for serious social purposes. It is a powerful load and recoils sharply from this 3" handgun. For deer, I would prefer a heavier cast lead bullet.

I could not have put it any better than TNRifleman.
I use the CorBon165 grain as my CCW ammo in my Model 629 Mountain gun.  For hunting, I carry 311 grain LSWC handloads.
