scope for UC
« on: August 13, 2005, 11:45:37 AM »
I finally got my 270 UC barrel. It fit perfectly on my 223 frame. I lapped the bore, polished the chamber, gave it a good cleaning, and lapped and bedded the scope rail. Now i just need to get a scope for it. I'm having trouble deciding on a scope for it. I really don't have the cash to go drop on a Leupold or Burris so i would like to keep the cost at $150 or below. I know what all of you are thinking........MUELLER.......i'm not big on the illuminated reticle....i know, i know, don't turn it on......well i don't really see any sense in paying for a feature i'm not gonna use. So with that being said i've been looking at the nikon prostaff.....does anyone have any experience with this one? if not how about you recommending some others. Any help is always appreciated.

I have one, but the $125 Nikon Buckmasters I got from Walmart is nicer and cost less!!! Mitch in Michigan just bought 3 of em at a Walmart for $80 each.....I'd be checking all your Walmarts before I did anything else!!!

I got a Nikon at walmart for 79.  But, not all stores have them.  If you see one, grab it quick, think later, you can always return it.

Mine was the last one also,  I did not want the display so I had them check other stores.  They found 3 at a nearby store.  I got there and they were 199.  I told them about the sale, they said not at this store.

I went back and bought the display model.

That is when I stared wondering what is going on here.  Are these perhaps an older model, being replaced by something better, or just newer.  Still a deal though.

What about the Bushnell Legend series? I hear awesome things about these.

You can find Simmons Aetec and Whitetail Expedition scopes still on the net and get a excellent price too.

Has anyone heard or saw any reviews on the Tasco Titan series. They are priced up there with the Bushnell Legends for the 1" tube. The 30mm are priced around the Weaver Classic V. Wonder if it would be worth a try?

I have seen them only on the net. And have never seen an actual review yet. They have been out for a while too..kinda scares me.
If you are not against.....Natchez.....sorry...they still have all there old Simmons models on sale, and have some reconditioned Redfield scopes all under $100.

The model that's on clearance is last year's model #6425, the current model #6420($200) has 92% light transmission compared to 88% on the #6425.

Thanks Quick!  I just left WalMart with the last one (#6425) for $80.  Had to convince the sales clerk to do a price check on the scope marked $200.  He was convinced that if there was a sale, he would know about it.  Kept my mouth in check and got him to humor me and scan the barcode.  He sure was nice afterward.  Thanks again Quick and Mitch.  Mike
