Muzzle brake for .454 Casull Encore
« on: July 25, 2005, 02:08:16 PM »
Can anyone recommend a GOOD muzzle brake for a 12" Encore barrel in .454 Casull?  My hands don't have a lot of meat on them and shooting my Encore is no fun after approximately 10 shots. Does anyone have any comments on the "Muzzle Tamer" brake offered by TC ?

As always, any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thanks,
Joaquin B.:cb2:

T/C's muzzletamer is very effective and is a viable route for you as it is not very long at all.

Give Mike at OTT a call. He has a "fish gill" brake that is very effective. Some guys I know are using it on some of the big boomer Encore handguns {300 win mag, 458 win mag, and 50 AK} and are very pleased with the results. Here is a link to his webpage.

As for the "Maximizer" brake from David White, I had one of those. Didn't like the look or the performance. Most of his brakes are made of aluminum and are much larger dia than the barrel.

I have found the brakes with holes all the way around work better than the muzzle tamer

I have a 12” 454 Casull Encore barrel without any break our tamer.  I have a Weaver 2x28mm scope installed on it and the recoil is more than manageable.  I hand load all my ammunition and I strictly use 335 to 360 grains hard cast gas checked LBT design bullets with full charges of H-110 powder.  I find muzzle tamers or breaks annoyingly loud.  They are not required for hunting purposes.

SSK is the place for brakes.  I have complete confidence in JD Jones and his knowledge on the subject.
Please take my word on it
