CVA customer service/ warranty
« on: August 15, 2005, 09:25:59 AM »
has anyone here had problems with CVA's warranty or customer service? i have had my St. Louis Hawken flintlock since 2003. during this time i have only shot it 25 times if not less. about 2 weeks ago i shot it, cleaned it then put it up. last week i pulled it out and the hammer won't lock to the rear at all. i called customer service and told them the problem and they said the warranty wouldn't cover it. i told him that it had only been fired 25 times and he said internal parts of the lock wouldn't be covered. so instead of paying shipping both ways and the cost of parts i just took it to a local gunsmith. it p***** me off that i paid $225 for a gun that only shoots 25 times before it breaks. it is a beautiful rifle and i love the thought of killin a deer with a flintlock, but my T/C New Englander is a real gun so i guess i'll just stick with it.

I screwed up the threads on my inline breechplug. I called and then sent in to CVA service. They charged me 14 bucks to chase the threads, and sent the gun back with an extra plug... That alone covered my cost!
No matter how pissed I get, (and I do) I always kill with kindness, and can't recall not getting what I wanted, cheaper than a smith.

I had a problem with a breechplug that was on a cva inline, they did replace the plug at no charge,
I also will say that thompson center has the best warranty ,I did have a problem with my t/c flinter hawkens : seem over the years the stock did split gun has to be almost 30 years old and t/c did replace the stock at no charge.
I own 2 flinters one a hawkens 50 cal.the other a early Renegade in 54 cal.
A 54 cal. thunderhawk and a 54 cal. new englander : The stock on the New Englander was also replaced by t/c : all are tack drivers
Thompson Center is the way to fly

I have the same rifle, with the same problem. I found the trigger was engaging the sear not allowing the hammer to go to full cock. I put a shim between the trigger and the stock. The other way to correct it is to file some of the sear or heat the sear and put a dogleg in it to raise it above the trigger.
Putting a shim is the easiest to do. CVA stocks appear to be softer than most, that's the root of the problem. Stick with it they are good value for your dollar.
