velocity in your .223 handi with 50grainers?

i've been experimenting with H335 and W748 using 50gr. nosler BTs. i'm using a COL of 2.255
 
my velocity: H335 / 26.0gr. / 3150fps
                  W748 / 26.5gr. / 3050fps

the W748 yields slightly better groups, but neither is as fast as what i expected. i feel these are both near max loads in my rifle. although i'm not completely done testing W748, at 26.5gr. with the H335 and i start having stuck cases and high pressure problems.

just curious to see if anyone has similiar data?

You're pretty much in the ball park.  The books often show more velocity but they are often done in longer barrels.

Are you after more velocity??

If so, you might also try BLC-2, Varget, and Benchrest.

IMO though, since you are pretty much at good useful velocities for the .223 it might be time to look more at accuracy than velocity.  My own thoughts on the .223 are that I'll be happy with any velocity of 2850 fps or better as long as it's a best accuracy load.  After all, what will you ever do with a .223 that is better done with max velocity than max accuracy? :grin:

I have a 223 survivor, 22" heavy barrell.
Using Hornady 50gr Vmax w/28.0gr BLC my average velocity is 3154.
This yields,for me, 1" groups on the average...cool and clean barrell.

Haven't chronoed the 50's yet but my 40gr Vmax's zip along at just over 3500fps from my 223 UV.  Load is 27gr of H335.
