how do you clean inside a 357 die?
« on: August 22, 2005, 10:46:31 AM »
I found a set of used RCBS 357 dies.  The only problem with them is that the seating die has a ring of buildup inside the die.  I am guessing that it is dirt and lube dried together.  I got the dies for making 357 Maximum when I get enough money together for another barrel.  The die is mirror smooth inside so how do you get the gunk out without scratching it up?

As always, thanks for the help in advance.

Try a nylon bore brush and lighter fluid.  It's what I use.

One of those wooden Q-Tips would work too.  You can take a pocket knife and whittle a chisel-bit out of the wooden end of the q-tip and scrape away to your heart's content without damaging the die.

Yep, that's what I use also.. bore brush and bore cleaner chucked up in a drill at low speed.

Good Lord, that is an easy answer.  I am trying to make this too difficult.  A bore brush, I have those....too much stress at the bench today.  Going to walk it off.
