357 herrett

Well I got my 10 inch 357 herrett barrel in the case trimmer and dies finally got to me.
I went to the range to pick up some 30-30 range brass  so I can learn to make the cases with out wasting a lot of money and good brass I was only able to find 5 rounds of 30-30   .
So yesterday I went to work and on the 5 th case I finally got one loaded/

1)  I trimmed the 30-30 case to 1.80 with my dermal tool
2) I used the lyman case trimmer to square the mouth up
3) removed the decapping rod and ran a lubed case in the die
4) then I lubed the inside of the case and put the decapping rod back in and ran the short 30-30 case in and out until the neck was expanded.

I had some trouble  when I tried to load my 158 gr cast bullets.
When I tried and seat the bullet it would catch the edge of the case and crush it. So I used my 375 JDJ die with the tapered decapping rod to flair the 357 herrett mouth some.

after 5 cases and about an hour I got a 357 herrett loaded with a 158 gr cast bullet.
now I have to come up with some more 30-30 brass to finish learning how to make the 357 herrett cases.

yep,you gotta flare those cases and chamfer the inside a wee bit. even with flat base jacketed slugs a bevel on the inside is neccessary.found that out with 358 cases.

I always chamfer the case mouths no matter what. I too found it works better.
