What is the replacement for Winchester 680.
I don't know when they last made it but I can't get it anymore.

What are you all using in its stead now.

Thanks Warf

If we're both at the next prairie dog shoot you "might" be able to get a good supply. I have several pounds and no longer load for any rounds in which I use it. If we're both there I'd be willing to bring it out to you if you can wait that long. I'm not shipping it as it's just too dang much trouble to ship.

warf73,

I have some surplus WC-680.  It is sold by several of the surplus powder suppliers.  I says to use Winchester 680 or AA-1680 data for WC-680.  I have used AA-1680 data with no problems.  So the WC-680 might be an option for you.

By the way, what are you using it for?  I purchased mine for the 445 SM but really didn't have much success.  It appears to have limited applications although I might be wrong on that thought.  Just curious...BCB

AA1680 is somewhat slower than W680 was.  I tried a direct replacement but that didn't work, pressures were too low and velocities were too.  That said, AA1680 is the propellant for the .375 WCF and is great in a host of others.  I'm surprised to hear it didn't work in the .445, a fellow silhouette shooter used it in his and it worked very well with the heavier bullets, particularly the 250 Sierra.  It also works well in the 7TCU and the .22 Hornet.  I miss ol' W680 a lot, but I can make due.

The batch of WC680 I have is faster than AA1680, and about identical to WW680. Plus it's dirt cheap - about $60 for 8 lbs, IIRC. Get it from Pat's Reloading.

Same as you I'll be using it in the 445SM with 265-300gr bullets.
If I can get enough of it I'll use it in some shotgun loads also. That was our HOT Pheasant powder. I miss that powder, I still have one of the old steel round canisters it came in. (1lber).

Bill
I'll take you up on that offer if you don't mind, I agree on the shipping its a pain in backside to send powder/primers.

Thanks guys I'll look at them other powders, I'll look on Barnets web site(think thats the name of it) they sell alot of pulled/new surplus powders.

I didn't know if the new WST powder line might had taken the place of the WW-680, guess not.

Thanks Warf

Don't mind at all Warf. Next year when we're planning for the prairie dogs we'll just plan on that too.

I guess when I said that WC-680 didn’t work in my 445 SM, that may have been a bit of an overstatement!  It did work O.K. but it never performed as well as Accurate Arms indicated that the 1680 would perform.  Which incidentally, didn’t do all that great either!  Velocities were good with both.  IMR-4227 done as well as either of the previously mentioned powders and maybe a tad better.  I really never worked extensively with the T/C 445 SM as I sort of lost interest when I couldn’t get M.O.A. at 100 yards with any real consistency.  I probably will put a more powerful ‘scope on it and give it another try later down the road.  Maybe then WC-680 will work great…who knows.  Good-luck…BCB
