go to the lyman site click on black powder scroll down till you see loading instructions it will give max loads with with the ff and fff powder plus all you need to no about loading.hope this is some help.

Try 80-90g of FFG, or Pyrodex rs. I have the Deerstalker in 50 cal and shoot 80g of Pyrodex and a .495 ball. A friend liked mine so much, he got rid of his .54 Great Plains and picked up a .54 Deerstalker. He also uses a round ball [.535] and 90g of Goex FFG. They are great hunting rifles. Have fun.
