Sabots and cast bullets.

Here's an idea that I've been kickin' around.  I need to come up with something to shoot out of the new inlines that I've picked up.  I've been into bullet casting for a number of years so it's something fairly easy for me to do. All of what I cast comes from Wheel Weight metal, which wouldn't be perfect for muzzle loaders BUT I've been thinking, I could cast a nice .429 and use a sabot in my 50's and that should solve the problem of hard lead in a muzzle loader.  Does or has anyone else done this?  I really would like to save a bit of money by casting my own bullets, that way I'd only be out the money for mold and sabots and I'd have an unlimited supply of bullets.  What weight do ya'll think would be good for deer hunting?  I was thinking a good 240gr but I see they've also got molds for bullets up to 300gr. in a .429.  Talk to me and let me know what ya'll think.  In Frith.

I guess I could even go with a .451 if I wanted too. What do ya'll think about the .429 vs .451 deal with cast bullets?

Either the 44 or 45 in cast will work.  Just let us know hoe it works out for you.

I got on the Midway U.S.A. site and found a .452" bullet that's a round nose/flat point at 300grs that should work nicely. I figure if it'll be cast and have very little to no expansion that I should go with the larger bullet.  T/C has Sabots so once I get em' ordered I'll cast a few and give it a go.   I'm going to start with 80grs of Pyrodex RS and see how it does then move up to 90grs.  Which ever load shoots the best groups will be the one I'll go with.  There's not enough velocity increase between the 90 and 100gr. load to make burning the extra powder really worth it.  Anyway, I'll keep ya'll posted.  In Frith.

I found that 90 gr. of triple7 shoots my DC 195 gr. PR sabots the best.
