Mark Sullivan is probably the most controversial "professional hunter" out there. Several of the animals in that video were clearly wounded and the speculation has it that he wounded them for the purpose of making that video. All that I can say is the guy must have a huge ego and an adrenaline jones, but that is not what I call hunting. "Let the animal choose..." What a moronic thing to say. More like... "Let me wound an animal and then goad him into charging me so that I can get an adrenaline rush and make an exciting video."

Gives hunters... professional hunters, in particular... a bad name.

I agree totally, Jimi.
This particular video specifically came up on another forum and caused alot of argument, and I mean argument...not debate, some of which became very personal.
The whole ethical debate on"should we be hunting big game in Africa when there are ballooning populations and rapidly shrinking ecosystems & habitats" isn't assisted by this gung-ho approach.
Hunting the Big 5 in Africa is adrenaline-charged enough without the arrogant and down-right dangerous methods Sullivan uses, regardless of how successful or experienced he may be.
I always thought the idea of us hunting was to be humane and there doesn't seem a lot of it in that film.

Y'know, something just struck me as I watched that video one more time.
I shot a rabbit 2 days ago from a similar range that kicked much like one of those buffs in it's dying moments.
With one toddler and another on the way my opportunities to shoot don't come as often as I'd like and game's a bit scarce.
As such there was more than a little thrill in the kill.
Always is, even just with bunnies.
I certainly didn't wound it so it could run a bit closer before I finished it off.
Should it really matter which game we're hunting?
Just an observation.

What we're hunting doesn't matter a lot.  I live in an area where almost nobody hunts rabbits. Me, Questor Jr., and our dog Quester have a fine time chasing cottontails.  To my way of thinking, it's more interesting and varied that most of the big game hunting I've done.
