I've always favored the .30-06, .303 British and .30-30.  Following my fathers advise, he was an advocate of big bullets, in the '06 I shoot 180's. In the .303 I use 174's or 180's and in the .30-30 170's.

Since getting bit with Handi-itis, I now have several, capable deer calibers to choose from.  I must say, I am becoming very fond of the .280 lately.  But, it seems I now have a "specialized" cartridge for just about an every circumstance.

But, I do believe I can still see a gap in there, somewhere. HehHehHeh.

Good day to all.

I have used many calibers for deer hunting over the years and all with great sucess. Problem is I don't really dislike any of them . Tell you what though, I really like my .25-06  :-)

270 130 grain for most of my life, now the 270 WSM. But will be using for the first time, 7mm-08, 25-06 , 308 and 45-70 this year, probably the 7MM-08 the most.

For brush & heavily woode I like my peeped 45-70 or 444 or soon 445. More open I like 7-08 308 270 maybe I will really like the 270 UC when it gets here

Ah shucks its hard to choose   don't want to offend any of the handi's so maybe a different one each day that should keep em all happy.

Gonna take the 12ga 24in choke tube barrel & 20 ga mod youth out next week for some doves, gonna put em on the red lam stocks should be perrty. Darn I need a digital camera but I can't stop buying handie's so something has to give so long camera

Taking my 8yr old along hope he gets to bop one of those flying rockets

It's a hard choice when I walk out the door.  What do I take? the 8x57 Mauser, 7.62x54R Mosin, 30-06 Ruger77, 357Max Handi, 45-70 Handi, or the 45-90 Buff Classic?  I'd like to take one with all of them, the last one I got 2 years ago was with my 45 colt Marlin 1894 Cowboy.    What's bad is I like the idea of the 270 UC but after looking at what I already have, it would just be one more to taunt me as I walk out the door.  Enough is enough.

My 44mag/445sm is gonna be the baby to use this season. Straight gripped youth lam. stocks with the barrel cut to 16 1/2" with a red dot sight. It's gonna be my brush thumper.

Then if i find a field to sit on, it will be the 270 UC after i get a load worked up.

I've got to be a little bit different since we can't hunt with rifles in Delaware. The last 5 deer I've taken have been with 12ga Federal premiums with the barnes expander bullet. All five have fallen over dead on the spot! But soon I'll have a 30-06uc and I've already got a 45-70, 223, and 357. I think it might be time to do a little traveling.

How about a  4 to a pound flint lock double musket. That ought to take the woods game? A handfull of BP and a 4oz slug thats what you need for some of these big deer and hogs.  :D  :-D  :)
