i wish wisconsin would establish a moritorium on pheasent hunting, and devote 5 years to a realistic stocking program using wild birds obtained from a cold weather state such as iowa.    i love the idea of hunting wild birds here; i just cant see the point in put and take.

hey myron....wisconsin being what it is with such varied terrain and all....is mainly still going to pocket areas of pheasants no matter how ya slice it in my opinion.  i happen to have a good area to hold pheasants, so me n a neighbor release them alot.  in the last 5 years we've let over 500 go.  we figure 50% are sticking around, and 50% of those sticking around are lost to predation, and in the last two years we have been seeing hatchlings.  its grewat to see growth with our efforts.  we layed off hunting them for the first 3 years or so...and now only take about 5 a year between  the both of us.  i hate to say this, but you wont ever see growth like that in many counties in wi.  buffalo country for instance  may be great turkey and deer habitat, but pheasants just wont really ever be real big there due to the layt of the land...the birds will poscket in small areas and be easy pickings for yotes and fox.  just my 2cents.

Superior, WI used to have a lot of pheasants and that is about as far north as you can to in WI. Then some brain trust decided to use poisoned grain to kill all the rats at the grain elevators and rail yards. Well it killed the rats all right but it also killed off all the Pheasants as well and I would imagine a goodly amount of Ducks and Geese as well.  :x  :x  :x
Said I never had much use for one, never said I didn't know how to use it.

:D Some peasants reproduce by me in fond du Lac Co. but I don't believe farming practices help their survival. Predators are thick also, especially hawks. I heard a coyote howling the other night. With the # of coons dead on the roads there must be a ton of them running around too.
I did see one batch of young pheasants this spring, also a few quail.
