I think you will really like this rifle.  I have one in 7x57 and it is the cat's meow.  Balance is great, it is compact and a pleasure to shoot.  I'm not sure how much muzzle blast the '06 will have out of the short barrel, but I do enjoy the one I have.  Let us know how it shoots!!

30-06 in #1 RSI

I too was a little concerned about this chambering in a 20" barrel. It would appear that the case volume to bore ratio is just about the same as 7x57 so would one really expect a significant difference in blast :?:  By the way all of the other RSI chamberings are even less ideal in this regard.

Ed, :D
I haven't shot an '06 in the RSI, so I may have been talking out of my left ear!!!  That does happen on occassion.  My apologies if I caused unwarranted concerns.  I have shot a friend's 20" barreled '06 custom bolt rifle and it does a rather fierce muzzle blast, much more than the 7x57.  I guess that is comparing apples and oranges though, or maybe not?  Should keep my mouth shut if I'm not comparing the same rifles, I guess.

My apologies.

The No.1 RSI is a specatular rifle and is a great pleasure to shoot and hunt with.  I'm sure those that have them will enjoy.

YJ,

I was not trying to "put you in your place" or otherwise shut you down on your concern. I too had the same concern and had to talk myself out of it and into a beautiful #1 RSI in 30-06. I'll admit I'd probably rather have it chambered in .308 but alas Ruger has never seen fit to do so and my particular specimen happened to be chambered in 30-06.

I've been shooting a 22" 30-06 my whole life so I didn't really think 2" would translate into some kind of horrific blast so I went for it and I'm sure glad I did. It is the sweetest handling rifle I own.

I have a Ruger #1 243 that ranks as one of the most accruate I have--I have a M77 RSI in 308 that is the lease accurate by far. It is a gorgeous piece, but I am sure it needs stock work. The muzzle blast is phenomenal from the short barrel. Good luck. I love my Ruger rifles.
The first shot is the best shot, it may be your only shot!  Do it with a single-shot.

Ed,
I didn't take it that way, just kinda kicking myself after I thought about it awhile. :D

You brought up some excellent points and I felt my previous post may cause the potential buyer to rethink buying it.  Those are really great rifles and I didn't mean to dissuade the purchase in any way.

No problems here.
