1/2 hour before shooting times ended tonight, I saw about 4 Doe working there way towards me, leaned against a tree and they all froze about 40 yeards from me. They knew something was up, but wasn`t sure. The lead Doe(the biggest one) took one step, and all I had was a neck shot on the side. I settled the open sights right in the middle of the neck and let the 90 grains of Goex FFg and BBC 245 grain Ball-Et fly and boom, right down, took out the jugular veign!! Well, I was so deep in the nasty stuff and couldn`t drag her down hill(way too thick and far), too steep up hill. I gutted her and had to leave her, my brother is helping me get her out first thing tommorow morning. He is going to hate me after he sees where she is

Plus, she is over 200 pounds gutted for sure :eek: I posted this delema in the Deer Hunting section about maybe using a pole and rope and shoulder her out? Anyway, she will will well erned after we get her out, and I love my Sidekick and the BBC Ball-Et

Congratulations. I hope to take my first smokepole deer with my Sidekick this Fall.

I already dropped her off at the butcher and she is done already-good eating

I was never a great open sights shooter, until I deiscovered Fiber Optic Sights, heaven sent!! The only thing that concerns me is, yes the Ball-Et did break the neck and sever the juggular, but it didn`t pass completely thru. It either hit and ran down the neck, or pancaked and stuck in the neck. Is this normal for an all lead bullet? Thanks-Jack.

Sounds as if the bullet did it's job. The bullet may have pancaked. I have a friend that hit a buck with a lead bullet in the hip and it never passed through but the buck didn't get away

Ok, I get it now .All lead is softer than I thought. If this 245 grain slug did this, I wonder how my 177 grain roundballs would do? Not as well I would think? Jack.

I shoot 70 gr of FFFg American Powder Company Powder with a BBC Ball-et and I have been well pleased with this combination. In my experience, necks or ribs are 100% effective. I have never shot a deer in the shoulder with it but I wouldn't shy away from that shot if it was the only one presented.
