Just bought a 50 yr Anniversary Blackhawk
« on: August 28, 2005, 06:14:38 PM »
Was recently looking through the 2005 Ruger catalog and saw the ad for the 50 yr anniversary Blackhawk and saw it said 1955 - 2005 on the barrel.  Well... I was born in 1955 and will be 50 this year and I thought that would be a good birthday present.  That afternoon the wife and I went to the local gunshop and they had a couple of em in stock.  The wife (bless her soul) agreed with me about it being a good birthday present, so I got one.  Really a sweet handler but feels heavy in your hand compared to a standard Blackhawk, due to the steel grip frame.

Haven't shot it yet but tore it down and went through it and slicked it up somewhat.  The fit and finish and internal machine work is better than the other Blackhawks I've been into that have been built in the last 30 years.  Haven't got the trigger where I want it yet, but it's close.  The timing is perfect on 5 of 6 chambers and very near perfect on the other one.  I'm sure it will be a shooter.  I'll give an update after my first trip to the range with it this week.

That's great! Nothing like a new gun to play with.
 Happy Birthday.

I finally got one and picked it up last week. Took it to the range today. Shoots pretty well. When I took it apart to smooth things a little, it appeared better made than most Blackhawks I see. Still needs more work, but looks pretty good so far.

Tom C.: I agree about them being better fitted and finished than the other Blackhawks built in the last several years.

FINALLY got to get mine out and break it in a little this afternoon.  It's a shooter!  Only got to put thirty rounds thru it but got a couple of groups less than 2.5" at 25 yds with some el cheapo ammo and NOT shooting from a bench.  Was also able to shoot the flowers off some wild daisies growing in a ditch on the farm.  The extra weight of the all steel grip frame really soaks up the recoil of the .357 Mag loads.

Off a bench and with some of my good reloads, it should really perform.

Told my friendly dealer last spring I'd like one.  Stopped in shop today and it's here.  Won't get back to pick it up til next Tues.  Did get to play with it, feels good.  Have a number of Ruger SAs and like them, but the worst of the bunch is a .357 I got about 4 years ago.  Did a trigger job on it and that helped, but longer barrrel so so.  Now this one trigger felt pretty good out of the box, heft was great, no where near as bulky as old one.  I think this is a deffinite keeper.  Have a .44 mag 5.5" fluted cyclinder, round trigger guard, this is also a great firearm.  Am anxious to put some rounds through this new one.  Have some of the Single Sixs in 32 H&R Mag that are really fun and accurate.

They are nice little poppers. I bought one to have converted to .41Special. What was your serial #? I'm looking for 4747, 1411,1412,1041, you get the idea. I'd like a good combination of 41 or match my OM FT. Wish I could keep the etching on the barrel, too. :)

I just picked up a second one. I will probably give them to my wife to use for CAS. I have slicked up the first one. It is pretty good. I have just started slicking up the second one. I haven't fired it yet, but will take it out tomorrow. They both have .358" cylinder throats, barrles look ok, alignment seems ok, lockup is ok. They should be pretty good after I get them broken in a little. Both are better made than the average Blackhawk.

I totally intend to own one.  I'll wait a little first and see if they have the foresight to chamber one in .44 spl, if not I'll just have to convert one of the 357s to .44.  As always, 44 Man.
