« on: July 10, 2005, 08:40:00 PM »
hello,

alright, if you were to buy a G2, what barrels would you buy to hunt, coyotes, deer, black bear and elk?  I know it would be several I was thinking, .223, 7/30 and 375JDJ  I might go 309JDJ instead of 375 not sure!!

thanks

i have a .17m2, .22lr .22k-hornet, .357mag. all carbine barrels. if i was gonna shoot black bear, i,d get a 45-70
i think a 30-30 barrel would be nice as you could use spitzer bullets?!
when i squirrel hunt with the .17m2, and when i,m after deer or hogs with the .357mag, the weight of the gun is almost the same. and the trigger is the same for both. seems like when i practice with one, i practice for all!

The 22LR, 7-30 waters(or 30-30) and the 375 JDJ (or 45/70)
I have the 22 and 30-30 and see no need for the larger barrels for me as hunting is out of the picture for a while and anything I want to hunt later can be done with my super 14 30-30 barrel. Had  45/70 AND A 375 JDJ AND IF YOU CAN DEAL WITH THE RECOIL THEY DO A WONDERFUL JOB. Since I now have carpel tunnel in both hands I avoid massive recoil these days even for fun shootin. solf my 2 big bore barrels. The 30-30 recoil is nice and easy to handle through.

17m2 for squirrel, short range pests (<125 yds)
.223 for longer range varmints, coyotes, pests, paper.
.204 for really flat shooting at longer range pests.
6.8 Rem SPC for deer, pig, etc.
45-70 for bigger stuff, but not too long range.

375 JDJ

If I was to move from my Contender frame to a G2 frame I would keep and use the same barrels that I have now.

1) 16.5" 22lr match tapered
2) 18.5" 10mm tapered
3) 21"    30-30 converted to 308 Bellmtapered
4) 22"    45-70 bull
