i,m a fan of big variables. i use a few 6-24,s you can always crank them down!
what kind of shooting do you do? target, long range varmint?
they say you cant hit what you cant see. high magnification is for rested shots when you have lots of time to find your target in a smaller field of view. when you shoot off hand, lower settings will give more field of view and show less wobble.
also heat and mirage will be worse at higher settings, after shooting for awhile, the barrel heats up and it,s harder to see clearly through the scope.
shooting over a field at prarie dogs, in the heat of the day can be harder at higher settings due to mirage. you will have to crank the power down a bit. i find that even the hottest conditions i can still use 12 power.
buy the best scope you can afford!!!!!!!!! you can get lucky and get a cheap scope that works! but it.s all luck. your chances improve with better scopes! leupolds are good but expensive. i have had luck with sightron, simmons, burris, and bushnell. good luck
