Rohnert Park Resident Shoots Neighbor's Pit Bull In Self-Defense

The Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety reports that a 43-year-old resident shot a neighbor's pit bull in self-defense Tuesday evening after the dog jumped his fence and charged him.

According to the police, the incident occurred at 6:42 p.m., in the 6000 block of Dolores Drive, when the victim was waiting outside for the authorities regarding a report he had made of the animal roaming the streets and bothering neighbors.

Before the police arrived, the dog jumped a 3-foot fence that enclosed the victim's lawn and charged toward him.

The victim, John James, then fired a shot from his .41-caliber revolver, but the dog continued to run toward him so he fired a second shot.

The dog, which is owned by James' neighbor Mike Ross, then ran away.

Ross found his dog suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound a short time later and transported the animal to the Rohnert Park Animal Care Center where it was euthanized.

The department reports that the Ross was issued criminal citations two separate times during August regarding the dog's behavior.

Police report that no criminal charges are being considered against James because witness interviews and evidence indicate the he acted in self-defense.

The department will not pursue municipal code violations against Ross because he already has two pending criminal cases regarding his deceased dog.

I once shot and killed a German Shephard dog that attacked me on public property. Absolutely no regard was expressed for my welfare by the owners of this uncontrolled animal. These freaks literally wanted me dead, or sentenced to life in prison without any chance for parole. One would have thought I had entered their home and slaughtered half their family. The state trooper who arrived on the scene reluctantly confiscated my firearm, but treated me really well. He saw the pool of dog blood on the pavement, even though the owners had moved the carcass onto their property to make it seem as if I'd shot their pooch for no reason. He even threatened to arrest the hostile owners for intimidation after he informed them he was not going to arrest me for anything. But these freaks cried all over the local prosecutor, and I was arrested later on a charge of cruelty to animals. After appearing in court several times in a six month period, I was found innocent of this ridiculous charge, and my firearm was returned to me.

BTW, years later, I learned that the freaks who had me prosecuted now breed and sell killer attack dogs.
