Barrel Fitting
« on: September 02, 2005, 05:19:46 PM »
I have a new from the box 17 HMR barrel I am fitting to a SB1 frame for a project I am working on.  The barrel closes, almost, but the latch doesn't quite lock up.  It is very close to latching, but just won't click in.  When I look at the top of the breach and the barrel I can see about a .001 to .002 gap.  I am thinking the distance from the front piviot to the rear of the barrel is just a little long.  Am I thinking correctly?  Should I take some off the front piviot or, since I will have the barrel in a lathe to re-chamber should I take a little off the barrel?  Larry
