Rem 260 or 280 with Varget powder
« on: August 30, 2005, 06:43:00 AM »
I am wondering if anyone has used Varget powder with the Rem 260 or 280.

Iam presently using IMR 4350, but looking for a less temperature sensitive powder, such as varget. The IMR 4350 works fine especially in the 280 with Hornady 162 SPBT.

Digital, I have used Varget in my .260 for years. It shoots better than i do.  Same groups winter or summer.  Once you find a powder that works buy as much of that lot as you can afford to guard against lot to lot variations.

I have tried Varget in 7m-08, 308 and 280.  Never been happy with the accuracy I got, although I realize it works well for other people.  Out of my 280 I use 57-58 gns of H 4831 with 140 gn bullets.  It works great for me with accuracy that just amazes me.

I've not tried Varget but my .260 loves H380. H414 gives higher velocities but larger groups. All of Hodgon's powders are now Extreme.  :D

Where did you get the idea that all Hodgdon powders are Extreme? I'd be really happy to find it's true, but there's nothing on the website about it. I'm not saying you're wrong, just asking for more info.

I don't know if they all are or not.  But H4831 and H4350 are.  It should say it on all of their cxontainers.

I read it in an ad in one of the gun rags. "Hodgons announces all powders are now Extreme." I guess it was a couple of years ago, so no longer bein' new, isn't on the website.
