Well I have the 35 Remington Carbine, the 35 Whelen Rifle and will pick up the 25-06 laminated rifle on layaway this week. This 223 carbine is next. It will be great for inexpensive target shooting. MIKE.

old06, I can't say for sure, but I don't see why not. I was interested in their model 7600P which is also one of their "law enforcement rifles" and almost the same thing but in 308 Win. I shopped around and would of had no problem getting one if I really wanted one.

I can't see why the general public won't be able to buy the 223 pump police guns, because two gun shops in my area have 308 police carbine
pumps...They point nice, correct comb for the peep site and say police on the barrel or receiver. Can't remember which, but it looked cool.

No I don't think so. You might want to call Remington and ask them to be 100% sure.

I dont really see a market for this gun. A 223 pump with an ar mag.. well , what a chore cycling 30 rounds. The 223 (5.56) is popular as a varmit gun(bolt heavy barrell) and a assault type(small cal rabid fire rifle. This combo does not seem to fit in either catagory. Just a little faster than a bolt.. but not significant. basicly a semi auto with no gas system, Replaced with a manual pump. I just don't get it. The crossfire was a 223 pump wit a shotgun combined and failed. I see no market for this. I bet they wont last a full year.

darrell8937,

The original concept behind this rifle was twofold. First, Remington was looking to create a patrol rifle that police departments would easily be able to transition officers to, from the 870 pump shotgun. As you may or may not know, the Remington 870 pump shotgun has been & remains the most popular police issued shotgun of all time. Since most of the operating features are the same (except the magazines) the 7600 was the logical choice for this project.
Secondly, Remington was looking to develop a product to market to agencies who, for political reasons, were not purchasing "assault rifles" (ie. semi-auto AR-15/M-4 variations) for patrol use. Since this rifle is nothing more than a (highly) modified hunting rifle, available to civilians for decades, Remington hoped to avoid the stigma of assault rifle applied to any gun that is "mean looking" by the liberal left.

Now that they have tooled up for it, there is really no reason why they can't make a sporter version of it with a regular 7600 style drop magazine.
But you never know what the factories are going to decide to do. The 760 had a similar chambering way back when, but apparently they were built for export, or so the story goes...

Just curious, but have you ever shot a pump action rifle ?  I am guessing not.  It really is not that hard to cycle 5 or even 10 rounds through one, and I havn't had the chance to try 20 or even 30.  Are they as "easy" as a semi - no, but they don't make you as lazy either.  Semi-auto rifles tend to make shooters lazy, and inferior shots, because they know, all they have to do is pull the trigger again.  Now, don't get me wrong, I own an AR and would like to get a couple more in various calibers.  But they are not the holy grail like some like to think.

Several of your comments are very similiar to what I constantly hear from others.  "I just don't get it" and "I see no market for this".  well, until you shoot one a few times, you probably won't, but that's OK, I enjoy taking people like you out to shoot.  Pump action rifles are alot of fun to shoot.  And if you still don't get it, well, that's fine, not everyone likes a pump.  To each their own.  Now your comment "they are just a little bit faster than a bolt", I completely disagree with.  A pump and a bolt are not even close, its more like, the pump is just a little slower than a semi.

Loaded4bear pointed out it's police applications, but for a field rifle or ranch rifle, and that is how I look at the 7615, I would much rather have a pump action over a semi.  And the two reasons why are, when you get a misfire, and they do happen, you can cycle in a new round without your hands even leaving the rifle.  My second reason is when you get a jam or failure to extract or a double feed, you can clean it out without your hands leaving the rifle as well.

Is this rifle designed for sitting at a bench, no, of course not.  It is designed to be a rifle used in the field.  And I would much rather have a 7615 than a mini-14.
