Load Levels for Contender and Encore 45-70
« on: September 05, 2005, 01:14:29 PM »
Does anyone know which load levels of the 45-70 Government reloading manuals apply to the Contender and Encore?

Level I (Trapdoor); Level II (Level actions); Level III (Bolt and Ruger #1 and #3)

Thanks, Mike

I just shoot Remington 300 and 405 grain factory loads so far. Have a Handi rifle in 45-70 now also, so will start reloading........

I use the Loadbooks manual (the complete reloading manual for the T/C contender) and the Lyman manual #47. I'm not certain what level they are but the higher loads are very powerful! Recoils levels climb rapidly as power and bullet weight rises!

I asked T/C this question a while back and this was there response:

T/C recommends the use of .45/70 Trapdoor Springfield reloading data for the .45/70 Contender barrel.  Please check the Lyman Reloading Handbook #46, Hornady Handbook Third Edition, Hodgdon Manual #25 and the Sierra manual for this information.

I imagine the Encore would be a little higher.

while not in front of me, I remember many notations in several books for T/C,  I believe the nosler book has a single shot section....., but the T/C load book has for contender I believe, yes encore can handle more...but wow.
the 45-70 is impressive anyway, will look when I get home, R
