You dont speak for me Cindy
« on: August 22, 2005, 06:10:24 PM »
VACAVILLE, Calif. - A caravan proclaiming support for U.S. troops began a tour through California on Monday and stopped in the hometown of Cindy Sheehan, the anti-war mother who gained national prominence during a vigil outside     President Bush's Texas ranch.

Conservative activists and military families embarked on a tour they are calling "You don't speak for me, Cindy!" and are planning rallies in several California cities before heading to Crawford, Texas.

"It's time to lay down the anger. We need to continue to uphold those people over there, to uphold those men and women with their boots on the ground," said Debra Johns, head of the Northern California Marine Moms, who helped organize the caravan.

"That's not the message being made" by the mother of the fallen soldier, Johns said during a rally in Sheehan's hometown, where about 30 Bush supporters gathered outside the Vacaville Reporter newspaper.

Vacaville was among several stops for the caravan, which is being sponsored by Move America Forward, a Bay Area-based group. Other rallies Monday were scheduled in San Francisco, Sacramento and Fresno.

Several supporters said they have family members serving in the military, and some said they knew Sheehan and her son, Casey.

Toni Colip, 50, of Vacaville, said her son, David, went to high school with Casey Sheehan and is now in the Marines, although not in     Iraq. She said her son opposes Sheehan's activities and has asked her to support his military service even if he is injured or killed.

"He said, 'Don't dishonor me, don't walk on my grave,'" Colip said.

Sheehan's 24-year-old son, Army Spc. Casey Sheehan, died last year in Iraq. She began a protest vigil Aug. 6 on the road leading to Bush's ranch, an act that has encouraged anti-war activists to join her and prompted peace vigils throughout the country.

She vowed to remain until Bush agreed to meet with her or until his monthlong vacation ended, but she flew to Los Angeles last week after her 74-year-old mother had a stroke.

The pro-Bush caravan plans to join fellow supporters who have set up their own camp in downtown Crawford as a reaction to the Sheehan-inspired vigil. Bush was in Salt Lake City on Monday, where he spoke to a national veterans group to rally support for the war.

Several of those in the caravan said they understood Sheehan's anger but disagreed with her protest.

"This is not the way to honor her son," said Lori Judy, 49, of Vacaville, whose son, Tim, served in Iraq.

Drivers waved flags as the caravan left Vacaville on its way to Sacramento, led by a recreational vehicle and a moving van covered with a sign reading, "Cindy Sheehan does not speak for me."

I totally agree.  Her son died a Hero's death fighting for what he beleived and not only serving THIS country, but standing up for Freedom for the entire world.  She is dishonoring him and taking away his rights to pride.  But then.....she will probably get MONEY for doing this....and that IS all that it is about.  She is a cheap peice of trash.

I agree too! I hate protestors because they are of all the same stripe and all protest for the same reasons all liberal reasons like Tree hugging and animal rights, anti war, anti gun and anti hunting. ect If it takes a few to protest back that normally would not I will go right along with that. About time some one stood up to these liberal pukes.
Said I never had much use for one, never said I didn't know how to use it.

Joan Baez joined the protestors.  What a memory trip!  Jane Fonda, Joan Baez!  All we need is Pete Seegar, Arlo Guthrie, Simon & Garfunkle, et al and we can all relive our salad days!  Or... grow up!

I actually thank Cindy Shehan for once again pointing out how outrageous and out of touch her ilk is.

As of today, there are hundreds of mothers of troops, living and dead who have served in Iraq, down at Crawford Tx.
They are protesting the shameful actions (according to HER family) of Cindy Sheehan.
The "unbiased" NY Times gave Sheehan 2 pages of coverage while giving the opposing hundreds ..2 sentences..

   More "liberal logic"...

Give her attention and she'll keep coming back, ignore her and eventually she'll go away. Joan Baez, what rock did she crawl out from under? See? if you disturb them they coil up, but if you ignore them and walk away, they go back to sleep. Just cold-blooded reptiles... Peace and God bless, Wolfsong.

FE...News Flash...

Fox IS "fair and balanced"...it only seems to libs that they are biased because the other networks have been so completely favorable to the left !

Another news flash..Rush and the other conservative talk show hosts don't CLAIM to be unbiased...unlike the New York Times...

As long as they stay as they are, their circulation will continue to shrink...THEY will solve the problem themselves...

Fe, I'd be very surprised if you ever actually tuned in to Fox, or Rush or anything that presents something other than the twisted, biased crap that comes from such things as Airhead America.

To be sure, Rush does come from the right point of view, but he is a heck of a lot more balanced than anyone on the left.

I must agree, he is “balanced”, with his three marriages, and his prescription drug abuse, he balances nicely with Ted Kennedy, both have had substance dependency and abuse issues and numerous failed relationships.  However, being none of RushÂ’s companions have died, as a result of a relationship with him, it is easy to see the truth and wisdom contained in his views, and as expressed daily, by him.

I guess I spent too much time reading your posts, ie. Ditch Witch.

Why are you surprised when others adopt a tactic that you have employed effectively.

FE;
You may have a point there. Perhaps I was guilty of excessive hyperbole in calling Sheehan " Ditch Witch"

It may not have been fair...yet, in light of her brilliant comments on current events....
Have you been privy to some of her outrageous public statements ?

For instance, she called her own president, whom the majority of us elected,  the WORST TERRORIST IN THE WORLD.
Accusing Americans of electing the world's worst terrorist as president..is decidedly "witchy"

In light of  Bin Ladin and his ilk...doesn't calling the American President " world's worst terrorist" not appear to be a "witchy" attitude.

We on the right were never that rough on the previous president.

All Americans KNEW that Clinton was a philandering adulterer...but I don't recall anyone on the right calling him the world's WORST PHILANDERING ADULTERER.....likely, he was just a "run of the mill" one....LOL

The brilliance of Cindy showed through when she called our President a terrorist..
Since all our military are under the Commander in Chief and following his directions...then by HER inference..your stepson, my grandson and Cindy's own son are just agents of the world's worst terrorist...

  Isn't that accusation a bit " witchy" ?

I can asssure you that my grandson, for one, is a a proud U.S. Marine...not a servant of any terrorist ! I doubt that any of the military are, except for a few like that Muslim that "fragged" his CO just before the drive on Baghdad...

If Cindy wants to point out terrorists, she should direct attention to the many folks here at home who are, through their whining, "hate America first" statements, are giving "aid and comfort" to the very terrorist enemy that is trying to destroy us...

She could point out the "eco-terrorists" that have prevented the building of refineries, nuclear power facilities and even "wind farms" and put us into the energy problems we are experiencing now.

She could point out the terrorists against the truth, like Michael Moore..or the economic terrorists that may have  nearly bankrupted some small nations economies inorder to enrich themselves.....

I will stand by the humorus appellation " Ditch Witch", because I believe her many examples of hate mongering and STUPID remarks have earned it for her.

Perhaps you would find " Michael Moore & George Soros' PUPPET " more palatable than Ditch Witch.

Ironglow,

Your post, about attacking the messenger, struck a chord with me.  Perhaps I am being overly simplistic, but it occurred to me that our country is reaching a point where we no longer seems to examine ideas based on their merits, but rather based upon a characterization of the presenter.  Look at any recent debate, someone propose an idea to solve a common problem, and someone else critsizes a specific of it, then instead of a mutual exploration of how to solve our common problem, the debate degenerates into defense of ideology and dire warnings of consequences of the effects of the opposing ideologies.  In the end the problem is never fully addressed, and it ends up being an issue of crisis management.

There was time when those of differing opinions, referred to each other as the loyal opposition.  While it sounds quaint, the underlying thought behind it is why a democracy can work.  The assumption being that whether one is in support of or opposed to a government policy, their view is what they believe is in the best interest of the country.  Unfortunately we no longer listen to each other.

We no longer engage in a debate, of I disagree because, but by character assassination.  Both the left and right are equally guilty, and both the left and the right have become sanctimonious and self-righteous, and appear equally hypocritical.  The adjectives employed by both the right and the left illustrate this everyday, Jesus freak, secular humanist, Bible thumper, right-wing wacko, bleeding heart liberal, and on and on. Objective listening and debate without hyperbole has become a thing of the past, and it is truly ashamed.  No doubt you and I would differ on a great many issues, but in the absence of rhetoric it is probable that we would agree on more than we disagree upon as we share a commonality of citizenry, and probably find a common ground to address our common problems, unfortunately it appears that, ideology has replaced ideas.  Personally, I have learned a lot from both you and other forum members, and found many ideas here that never occurred me.  These ideas have led me to, revaluate my prospective and some of my views.  While it is always difficult to see from anotherÂ’s prospective, the most difficult, thing has been to see these new ideas when they are often times obscured by ideological rhetoric.  Both the left and the right can bring something productive to a discussion, but only if we allow ourselves see beyond the bravado, posturing, and virulent oratory.

Honestly I find the reference to Sheehan as “Ditch Witch” funny, especially since she has moved from being a grieving mother to, being an anti-war protester who happens to be a grieving mother.  I also find it funny that those government leaders most in favor of military action, have the least personal stake in them, and in fact when most were subject or eligible for military service they avoided active service, that is why I call them “Chicken Hawks”.  Originally Cindy SheehanÂ’s actions raised valid questions, regarding the conduct of the war in Iraq and the mounting casualties, now it has evolved into what I feel is unqualified anti-war pacifism with a disregard of reality.  While there may be some that have the resolve to be true pacifists, I lack that strength.

Our growing inability to admit error, as matters of principle and our loss of pragmatism has, I believe, become the greatest detriment to the unity of the country.  Criticism can be constructive, admitting to and recognizing mistakes, is the first step in not repeating ones errors.  Today however few people are willing to engage in this self-analysis privately, let alone publicly.

I like to think of the right and the left as two people you ask directions of, you may get two different routes to take but they both have given you directions to get you to your destination.  Of course, you occasionally meet someone who has no idea how to get anywhere, and they appear to be evenly divided between right and left.  Naturally we have to agree on the destination, for me it has been, a clause from the pre 1954 Pledge of Allegiance, “One nation indivisible with liberty and justice for all”.

I think most of those who give us directions, whether left or right, are sincerely are trying to provide us the best route to our destination, based upon their experience.  The hard part is determining if they know how to get to where we want to go.

You are probably correct that, given a chance face to face, to engage in further dialog...we would probably agree on much more than we disagree.
It is the nature of forums and the naturally limited range of discussion that we most often discuss things that we either heartily agree on or disagree upon.

Probably if given a time to "coffee klatch" together, most of the folks on this forum would be a bunch of "good old boys"...and girls

                    Have a great week...Ironglow
