Remington and Winchester brass
« on: September 07, 2005, 12:51:09 PM »
Okay, in my limited 200 rounds or reloading experience, what I am seeing is that Winchester brass is harder, easier to crush in the sizing die, but doesn't grow so much.  The Remington brass had to be turned down after one firing but is much easier to resize.  Which one will last longer before I drop a few bucks on 500 pieces of brass?  (I am shooting .308 and 7mm-08, sorry)

I have not used remington brass very much, but over the years I have had good luck with the winchester brass.

Here's a thread on brass at RFC...mostly for the hornet, but there are some good general opinions there too.

i see win' brass as being softer, and see in a number of places where it is lighter....

i've gotten excellent results in the .223 using Rem' nickel-plated.   i use Rem' for very good results in my .270 as well.

win' is a brass that got a lot of good marks formerly on www.long-range.com; but Grant (moderator and shooter) has posted on that site that the quality has fallen off.

randy garrett uses Rem' brass in the very strong .44 mag's that he loads for slaying the 'giants' out there.   he has a website, as well.

good luck,

ss'

IMHO, it's a toss-up it seems that one lot of either can be better or worse than a different lot.  I don't like the nickel plated stuff because the plating will wear off after a few tumblings, especially if you don't have a timer on it and let it go too long.
