So what's the deal on 7.62x39 barrels? I seem to remember that they are special order items. How easy is it to get one? What kind of accuracy are you guys getting?

Do a search on the caliber and you'll see several reports. Since they don't shoot the cheap surplus ammo well, if at all, I do have to wonder what it has to offer over the 30-30.

The 7.62x39 barrel is part number R03490 $82. They are available as of just recently, but that can always change, so it's best to call H&R and ask em. It's also available as a complete rifle, SB2-762.....if you can find one.

Davidson's has a bunch of the 7.62x39 Handi Rifles available for pickup at your local gun shop:
http://www.galleryofguns.com/GunLocator/gunsearch/Product.asp?Manuf=&item_num=SB2%2D762&index=19&max=20&start=20&instock=None&manufact_combo=New+England+Firearms&mod_ser_combo=None&category_combo=None&model=None&g_type=Rifle&act_type=None&finish_type=None&calib_combo=None&sight_class_combo=None&price_range=None&qPromoID=&EZ=&left_handed=&youth=&item_only=0&oldsql=WHERE+%28unk2+like+%27%251%27+or+unk2+like+%27%252%27%29++AND+manuf+like+%27%25New+England+Firearms%25%27++AND++Inventory%2Egun%5Ftype+like+%27%25Rifle%25%27+ORDER+BY+manuf%2C+unk2%2C+unk3
However, since the 7.62x39 Handi doesn't have a good reputation for shooting inexpensive mil-surp ammo, the only use I see for them is as a platform for a .303 Brit or 7.62x54R conversion.
