Low, Med, or High Scope Rings for Encore 209 x .50?
« on: September 04, 2005, 04:03:29 PM »
I have yet another question for you experienced Encore users out there.   I'm getting ready to mount a Leupold 3-9 x 40mm scope on my Encore.  I'm using the Leupold dual dovetail base and Leupold 1" rings.  What size rings will I need:  low, medium, or high?  Keep in mind that I'd like to keep the scope as low as possible and I don't mind adding a hammer extension if necessary.  Thanks!

You want medium rings in order to have enough room below the occular to fit your thum to cock it... unless you went with a hammer spur, which I tried and hated.

I think you'd have to take the iron sights off for the low... the tap plugs for the scope rail should fit in those holes.

I'm recommending mediums.

If you will be hunting with gloves on you will need to go with high rings.

when I first got my 209x50 barrel I put on a set of tasco low rings and found I could not cock the hammer with out having to squeeze my thumb under the scope. I put a set of MED and they work well until I put on a set of gloves and still Had to squeeze in so high is the way to go.

Like others have said, Med to High for access to the hammer.  :D
