Scope mount advice (300mag)
« on: September 08, 2005, 03:17:11 AM »
Need advice on what brand scope mount people are using to mount scopes on there 300 mag Encores.
I have a Nikon 3x9x40 .

Have always used burris rings on all my other rifles but not sure about the recoil of the 300 with these rings.

Would appreciate advise from someone who is currently shooting a 300.

I shoot the 300 mag and use Weaver 4 X 4 extension rings to hold a Leupold 6 X 42.  The extension rings are high and with a scope that has 4.5 inches of eye relief and no adjustment ring they make the hammer easy to get to and scope far enough forward to not whack me in the head when I fire.  I have never had any difficulty with these rings on 30 plus guns.

I recommend Warne mounts and medium to high rings. I used it on my 300 win mag with not problems at all. I am currently using the Warne set up on my 416 Rigby Encore barrel. A lot more recoil than the 300 win mag.

I am using Burris Dual Dovetail bases with DD Signiture rings on my 300wim. I use those or  Virgin Vally SS bases with Warne QD rings on the rest of my barrels.

I agree on the QD Warne rings.  Buy one set of rings and then as many bases as you have barrels.  I swap out the same scope for every barrel.  Only takes 6 rounds +/- to rezero.  Usually leave the 270 barrel on for coyote and deer anyway.
