Got my first savage.
« on: October 02, 2005, 06:18:30 AM »
I picked up my first savage yesterday. It's a model 170 pump 30-30. This is the first one i have ever saw. Can anyone tell me more about this gun. I'll try to post pics of it later. But i was just wondering what they are worth? When they were made, etc. Thanks in advance.

I'd rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6.
The gene pool could use a little chlorine.

Don't know exact value but is probably in the range of 150-175 if in good to excellent condition (maybe some of the other folks could give a more exact figure). Savage made the 170 up until the early 80's in 30-30 and 35 Rem. I used to have one in 35 and it was a fun gun to shoot, nothing special in the accuracy department that I recollect but it worked quite well as a close-moderate range deer rig. If you are looking for a real tack driver, get one of the Savage bolt rifles (preferably with the Acutrigger, I have 3 and all are excellent shooters.

Here's some pics of it. It looks great. Everything is really solid on it. And it's got some great wood on it.
