I HAVE A HIGH WALL SET UP FOR RIMMED CARTRIDGE AND AM READY TO REBARREL. AT THIS POINT IN TIME HAVE NEARLY DECIDED UPON THE 7/30 WATERS. HAVE I MISSED THE BOAT OR THIS THE MOST MODERN, NON-WILDCAT, SEMI-HIGH POWERED . AMERICAN PRODUCED CARTRIDGE OUT THERE? THIS WILL BE FOR WHITETAIL HUNTING. THERE WAS A CARTRIDGE BASED ON ONE OF THE BIG BORE CARTRIDGES THAT WINCHESTER MADE FOR THEIR MODEL 94 THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE EXCELLENT BUT I DONT THINK IT EVER GOT INTO PRODUCTION. IT WAS A SHOOTING TIMES EASTERNER BUT DONT RECEALL THE CALIBER. THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR REFRESHING MY MEMORY ON ANYTHING BETTER THAN THE 7/30.

I belive you are thinking of the 7mm Shooting Times Easterner. If I remember correctly without going to look it up, I think it is based on the .307 Win. case.
Also the 30/40 Krag could be interesting in the Highwall for a rimmed case.

The 307 or 356 winchester would make a nice round in the highwall.just my :money: ,would even do for moose and bear.

As much as I love the 7-30 Waters there is no way I'd use the High Wall as a platform for it. Just too much gun for the round. Now a low wall in it might be nice.

SSK has a 7JDJ #2 which is a semi wildcat in that they provide dies and loading data for it. I have one of those as well as a 7-30. In barrels of equal length it will best the 7-30 using 140s by at least 200 fps and would be a better choice. It is based on a maxed out .307 Win. case.

I saw some replacement barrels at the last gun show for the Winchester High-Wall in some really ODD calibers. After chamber casts and consulting Cartridges of the World, I found the following:

.357 Maximum .38 spl/.357 Magnum versatility

.38-55 Win classic BPCR medium range

.375-348 Win wildcat in 3/8" bore

.40-Krag wildcat to satisfy the .40 urge

.40-90 classic BPCR competition
