Just booked a water buffalo hunt with Brady Ranch
« on: December 08, 2005, 08:24:29 AM »
Hi All,

I was close to sealing the deal with J&R and then read in this post about Brady. J&R has just raised their prices so brady was cheaper by a landslide. I assume their prices will also go up so you may want to book now and save some coin. I am going to try out my new Blaser 470 double to see how it performs. If all goes well I will then use it on Cape Buffalo in Africa. I leave January 13th so it won't be long.

I went there in September this year and took a Water buffalo. I used my Encore in 416 Rigby. I got a 135 yard shot from the ground. One shot was all it took. Tell them you want to stock the buffalo on the ground, it is a lot more of a challenge and a lot more exciting getting up close and personal. We got to within 25 yards of a small heard, but I could not get a shot due to the heavy cover they were in. We waited tell they went out into the clearing and I took my shot off my shooting sticks. My Water buffalo is already mounted and hanging in my office. My friend is a taxidermist and got it done for me right away and it is a very well done mount and a very good conversation piece.

The Brady ranch is top notch in my book. Let us know how you do.

Redhawk,

I am using my 470 nitro with iron sights, I am going to have to get closer then 135 yards, my farthest shot with iron sights is 98 yards thus far. Could you post a picture of the mount, I was just going to have the skull done, but you might be able to change my mind. Also, did you do a trophy hunt or a cull hunt, I am thinking a cull as the horns are still huge. If this 470 nitro express works out, I am gonna take it to Africa and kill a Cape, maybe you could join me????

Rick, I did the trophy hunt. But I did not get the biggest bull in the heard, I was more after the better looking set of horns. There were a lot of bigger bodied and bigger horned bulls, but like I said, the one I got looked  like what I was after.  Send me you e-mail address and I will send you some pic's of the mount. I do not know how to post pic's here.  Everyone that see the mount, thinks it is great. My taxidermist did a great job and while he was doing it, it was the topic in the taxidermy shop.  :D

You will be able to get real close to the buffalo there, just make sure you have a place to climb a tree and don't get caught out in the open, they will run you down. They don't look aggressive, but they charged our vehicle while we were out Axis deer hunting the day before I hunted my buffalo. Your 470 nitro express will work just fine.
