Any speculation on what's on Ruger's drawing board?
« on: September 14, 2005, 04:02:26 AM »
What do you think Ruger will release as a high powered single action hunting revolver? It will certainly use the 480 Ruger, among other cartridges, and probably 454/460. Any campfire predictions?

I'd like to see their current 44 Mag lever action and bolt gun come out in 45 Colt as a comapnion to their vaunted 45 Colt Black Hawk

I wouldn't be surprised to see the Super Redhawk Alaskan show up in .44 mag, which might have broader appeal than .480 and .454 given that the Redhawk cylinder can handle standard factory .44 ammunition all they way up to the super-long, super-heavy premium loads. I know I'd be interested in one.

This past spring, a Ruger guy (factory engineer, not sales rep) told me that the materials and machining of the SRH are completely different from the materials and machining of the SBH. In other words, it would take more than simply chambering the existing SBH in .480 or .454 to override their safety concerns.

But if they are completely re-tooling and re-designing a new, heavy frame single action ... it could be interesting.

I don't think Ruger wants to tackle the 460. But they will have to do something. The S&W 460 is going to cut into there gun sale's.

If that were true, I am sure Ruger would be putting out them instead of Magnum Research.
